I’m on this birthday kick for no reason whatsoever. Remember birthdays aren’t just for people, they’re for other things as well…like states. On this day in 1959, “We Like Ike” Eisenhower signed the proclamation making Hawaii a state. Because of this, we Americans don’t need no stinkin’ visa to:
* Eat poi with the natives
* Visit the Dole Pinapple Plantation
* Experience the Polynesian Cultural Center
* Feel the heat at Hawa’ii Volcanoes
Unfortunately you can’t go to Don Ho’s grave…his ashes were scattered off Waikiki Beach. Otherwise, don’t steal the lava (it’s bad luck) and Hang Ten. The best part about Hawaii…it’s not Martha’s Vineyard!
