Sign of the Times

On the 5:20 p.m. outbound train aboard the Fitchburg commuter rail, I was reading “The Steel Wave” by Jeff Shaara. Behind me sat a professional-type woman wearing casual clothing; the type of clothing you see in Title Nine/REI catalogs. She was speaking into her cell phone at a conversational level, “Hi, my wife has been trying to get in touch with you…”
